RE: The tariff classification of an air compressor and security system from China
Dear Mr. Festa:
In your letter dated June 21, 2004 you requested a tariff classification ruling on a mini air compressor, item number 78390, and a digitized security system, item number 77850.
You indicate that the mini air compressor weighs 3.3 kilograms, produces a free-flow rate of 0.85 cubic feet per minute, and runs on 110 volts AC. The compressor has an automatic switch that stops the action of the compressor at 57 PSI and resumes running when the pressure is reduced to 35 PSI.
The applicable subheading for the mini air compressor will be 8414.80.1685, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for portable air compressors under 0.57 cubic meters per minute. The rate of duty is free.
We need additional information in order to issue a ruling with regard to the digitized security system. Because the system is comprised of several components, which include cameras, cables, an adapter and a control box, please provide a detailed description of each component. The description should include an explanation of the function and/or operation of the individual component. When this information is available, you may wish to consider resubmission of your request. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
